A gum infection is something that any one could suffer from. Even if you practice perfect oral hygiene, you could suffer gum infections. In fact, while regular flossing and brushing can save you from dental problem, they may not be as efficient against a gum infection. Yet, the only way gum decay and gum infections can be prevented is by practicing good oral hygiene practices.
Some of the commonly experienced problems in the gums are gum disease, irritated gums, and abscesses and cavities in the gums. If the cavity is left untreated, it usually results into abscesses which are painful infections in the gums. Such infections have to be treated with the help of antibiotics. Gingivitis and periodontal disease are two of the commonest forms of gum infections. If a person does not maintain good oral hygiene, there is an overabundance of bacteria in the mouth which attack the gums and begin to decay the soft tissues. This would cause large pockets of infection to form and it would not take long for it to affect the entire mouth. The speed of the spread of this infection depends on the timeliness of the remedial measures taken. If ignored, the gums may be damaged permanently. Gum regeneration and pocket reduction are two of the most effective methods of treating gum disease. In order to maintain a healthy environment in the mouth, regular brushing and flossing is of great importance.
Though gum infections can be treated successfully, most dentists recommend maintaining good oral hygiene so that such diseases can be avoided completely. Brushing twice in the day, flossing after brushing and rinsing your mouth after each meal are simple measures which could be adopted to keep a healthy mouth.
