fluid in ear
The accumulation of fluid in ears is often the result of an inflammation or an ear infection. Generally the fluid in the ear is supposed to get drained out automatically, by the Eustachian tubes. However, in case of an infection, it is possible for the Eustachian tubes to retain the fluid in ears. This is not generally a very serious problem and therefore most doctors recommend that the most natural way to get rid of the excess fluid in ears is by letting it drain out, on its own. Apart from waiting it out for a day, the other methods of draining the fluid in ears is the use of antibiotics, home remedies for fluid drainage, or inserting a tube into the eardrum. Before draining the fluid from your ear, it is best to identify which method will suit you best. Although fluid in ears is not a very serious concern, it can cause a lot of pain and temporary loss in hearing too. Therefore, the fluid should not be left in the ear for a very long time or else it could cause an infection and fevers too. Moreover, if the problem appears to be chronic, that is, if it seems to appear time and again, this problem may even require surgery.
Therefore, the best immediate way to deal with fluid in ears is by using natural remedies to drain the ears. This can help eliminate the pain and discomfort without the use of antibiotics. Some natural options for relief from the fluid in ears are:
- Stimulate your jaw by chewing on some gum, in order to open up the Eustachian tubes. This not only stimulates the jaw but also the Eustachian tubes, which helps the fluid in ears to drain out naturally.
- Put some mild pressure on your ear, to allow the Eustachian tubes to open up. You can do this by taking in a deep breath and then plugging both your nostrils with your fingers. Close your mouth and then exhale lightly, till there is a buildup of pressure in your ears. If you hear a “pop” in your ears, it means that the Eustachian tubes have opened up.
- Suck on a piece of hard candy to stimulate the production of saliva in your mouth, which will make you swallow more than you normally do. Swallowing is a natural and safe way to open up the Eustachian tubes and get rid of the fluid in ears.
In case you do not see any relief from ear pain and fluid in ears, within a few hours or a day, it is best to consult a doctor.
