Normally a person would suffer from face swelling if they had sustained some kind of trauma or injury to their face. This face swelling that occurs is largely the inflammatory process that an individual experiences post suffering an injury from a fall. The inflammation will start off by the person’s face starting to swell up. The swelling could increase to twice the original size. This face swelling could also be accompanied by some redness in the area and a feeling of warmth. The individual will feel some pain too. Some other causes of face swelling include an insect sting, dental infection, allergic reaction to some food and edema. Facial trauma and mumps could also lead to face swelling. Some times the face may only be swollen on one side.
There are various different ways by which one could treat a face swelling condition. Some of these methods include applying a tea bag over the affected area of the person’s face. This is a very useful home remedy for face swelling and is mainly used because tea helps treatment of constriction of blood vessels. This would also aid in reducing any accompanying puffiness of the face. Tea contains anti oxidant properties that are useful in reducing any swelling. One should always make sure that the tea bag is not too hot as this can otherwise burn the skin. Another useful home remedy is to apply an ice pack or a cold compress to the face swelling. This ice pack should be kept on for about 10 to 12 minutes. If an ice pack is not at hand then one can make do by using a bag of frozen peas or just by wrapping ice in a napkin. Apple cider and honey can also be mixed together and applied to the area that is swollen. This is a useful remedy to reduce any inflammation. One may also apply a handful of some grated potatoes to the face swelling. This paste should be left on for about 10 minutes as it helps in reducing the swelling on the face. Potato is known to posses anti inflammatory properties. However one should take care to not apply of these ingredients directly on the skin if there is a break or an open wound on the face as this could lead to an infection. One can even try making a mask out of some mashed cucumber. This can be mixed along with a dash of lemon juice and applied to the swollen area.
