Vitamins for Nails
The most essential nutrient for healthy nails is calcium. If nails are brittle and tend to flake off or break easily, this is taken as a sign of calcium deficiency in an otherwise normal and healthy adult. While there are some circumstances which can make this happen routinely, there are simple measures that can be adopted to take care of these problems. If a woman is pregnant, this is totally normal, particularly if the diet is not healthy. It usually happens in the first trimester, and if it does, it is usually taken care of by the doctor prescribing pre natal vitamins. Generally, these vitamins should be sufficient to cover all the needs of the mother as well as the fetus as far as calcium goes. However, if this is not the case, then too, a calcium deficiency can come about due to a diet poor in calcium. Apart from this, excessive intake of caffeine and caffeine related products can also hamper the absorption of calcium into the body. In such cases, a second look needs to be taken at the general diet as well as lifestyle of the person. In people who are not pregnant, calcium supplements are the usual and recommended quick solution to the problem.
Calcium Deficiency Nails
Among the other secondary nutrients that are important for good and healthy nails, there is iron as well as vitamin C. A deficiency of iron can lead to ridges in the nails that can cause the nails to become extremely brittle. Once again, caffeine and all related products are the main culprits here. They hamper iron absorption as well. Eating regular and wholesome food that is rich in iron as well as calcium can prevent all sorts of problems associated with nails. However, a supplement may still be required. Add a lot of leafy greens to the diet, as they will provide the much needed iron to the body. In particular, concentrate on mustard and collard greens. Apart from these, all soya products are rich in iron as well as calcium. Try to add tofu to the diet on a daily basis, at least for some time. This will help with taking care of all sorts of problems associated with the nails as well as the hair. The best sources of vitamin C are all citrus fruits, which are extremely important in the proper care and health of the nails. Add these to the diet for added immunity as well.
