Valley Fever

Valley Fever can be defined as a type of fungal infection which causes damage to upper respiratory tract and the lungs. Also very commonly referred to as desert fever, an individual can get valley fever when he/she inhales the coccidioide spores, which are found in desert regions; places where the deadly fungus grows within the soil. This condition may at times, prove to be quite fatal, particularly if the infection develops into meningitis or pneumonia and treatment is not administered in a timely manner. This is not a contagious condition and thus cannot be transmitted from one person to another. Although, this is largely a respiratory disease, it may however affect other parts of the body as well. When it spreads to other areas of an individual’s body, such as the bone, skin and brain, it is termed as disseminated valley fever.

Valley fever rash is another symptom of this condition. It is characterized by the appearance of tiny red bumps on the skin. No serious treatment for valley fever is required, as the illness usually tends to take its own course (like a common cold), and the victims body combats the infection in a week or so. However, in certain cases the symptoms may be more severe and the infection may gradually transform into heart problems, ulcers, joint pain and pneumonia. If the infection is mild then it can be treated with a few simple home remedies. First and foremost it is important to get plenty of rest. Do not indulge in any kind of stressful activity. Eat a diet that is both balanced and healthy. Include plenty of garlic into your diet, as it is contains antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti spasmodic properties. This is considered to be a good cure for valley fever. Please bear in mind; if the symptoms do not abate in a week’s time, then consulting a doctor would be ideal.
