UTI Symptoms

If you find yourself needing to use the rest room frequently, have the urge to urinate even if there is nothing much to pass, need to urinate during the night, feel discomfort or pain during urination, find pus or blood in the urine, or find the urine cloudy with a foul odor, you could be suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI).

What is UTI? A urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection in any part of the urinary system. Urine does not normally contain bacteria, though it contains a variety of fluids, salts, and waste products. However, if bacteria get into the bladder or kidney and multiply in the urine, they can cause UTIs. Most of the infections are not serious, and can be treated, but if the bacteria were to reach the kidney it can prove fatal. UTIs can occur due to any blockage in the urinary system. It can also be caused due to poor hygiene and is more prevalent among adults than children. In many cases, it is caused due to an E.coli infection.

UTI is chiefly caused by bacteria that live in the digestive system, but when they move to the urethra, UTI occurs. It is more common in sexually active women and can spread through sexual contact from one infected person to another. Prolonging urination can also cause UTI. When you try retaining urine for a long time, it will increase the chances of infection. Some other causes include failure to empty the bladder, abnormal structure of the bladder, tumors or stones in the urinary tract, pregnancy, diabetes, or catheters or stents in the urinary tract. Women are more susceptible to this infection than men.

What are the Remedies?
Antibiotics will give relief but most also destroy the beneficial bacteria in the intestines and can weaken your body. Water is the best remedy to cure urinary tract infection. Drinking plenty of water, almost twice the amount you have every day, will flush the toxins from the body. You can boil water with a little cumin seed and drink it in place of plain water.

Vitamin C also helps the healing process. Lime is a rich source of vitamin-C and is good for treating UTI. Cranberry juice is another good option. The horsetail herb has diuretic properties and heals the tissues. You may also try gold seal root which is effective in fighting E.coli infections and has powerful anti-microbial properties. You can also eat pineapples or drink pineapple juice for curing UTI.
