The treatment of gout involves different aspects as pain relief, reducing inflammation, reducing the level of uric acid from the body, repairing the damage done to the affected joints. Exercise and diet both are very good options of treatment for gout.

Gout is very painful however doing exercises, which involve movements of joints are beneficial and help in reducing the symptoms. The exercises need not be very heavy. The purpose of using exercise as treatment for gout relieving the joints from the stiffness, which arises due to the inflammation and increase the blood and oxygen supply to help in recovery from damage. The option for exercise will depend upon the condition of the patient. It can be just simple movements of the affected joint or the rigorous exercises as walking, cycling, swimming, etc.

The use of exercise as a treatment for gout should be done only under the supervision of a doctor. This is particularly important in the advanced stages of gout. This is because as the joints are already damaged any wrong pressure on them may cause further damage rather than benefiting them. Therefore using exercise as a treatment for gout requires a regular testing for the effects on joints.

Diet is one of the natural treatments for gout. Uric acid is formed in the body form the food we eat. Therefore, if a right control is kept on diet, the patient can keep down the uric acid levels in the body. Purines are among the essential substances, which are required for the formation of uric acid.  Therefore staying away from the food items containing high proportions of purines is beneficial in the treatment for gout..

Many foods have been identified to have high contents of purines. Some of them are red meat specially the parts as lungs heart, liver, kidneys, poultry and poultry products, sea water foods, some green vegetables as lentils, spinach, lima beans, sugary fruits, etc. Moreover, any fermented food too is high in purine content. Generally preventing non-vegetarian and fermented foods helps in the treatment for gout. However, benefits of the vegetables and fruits far out weigh the risk that they create and therefore they should not be cut down from daily diet.

Some foods as cherries, berries, bananas, celery, tomatoes etc reduce the uric aid in the body. Therefore, they can be helpful in the treatment for gout. Moreover, increasing intake of water is advised to the gout patients. The increase in water consumption will increase urination and thus increase the execration of uric aid from the body.
