Tonsil stones or tonsilloliths are a rather common condition that most of us are unaware about. This is because it normally shows very few symptoms that most people do not realize and can live with for years before the condition becomes serious. Tonsils are actually gland tissues that are located on either side at the end of your tongue and are responsible to prevent infection as they attack all the infection and bacteria. However, many a times there is a possibility that food as well as mucous also get trapped in the tonsils and if these mix with bacteria an infection might occur. These materials settle down on the tonsils becoming hard and leading to the formation of tonsil stones. They are small balls that are white to yellowish in color and can also come in your mouth especially if you cough aggressively. One of the most common and early symptoms of tonsil stones is bad breath and this condition can be diagnosed and treated completely in most situations.

The first and foremost thing that you should do is gargle your mouth with a mixture of warm water and salt at least twice a day. This helps in loosening the tonsil stones. Acidophilis is a probiotic that helps in treatment of tonsil stones. It actually is essential to have a healthy digestive system and also fights the occurrence of all the bad bacteria and infection. This treatment is homeopathic and is believed to break the tonsils stones and also prevent them from occurring again. The dosage for acidophilis should be taken after consultation with your doctor as recommended by him and this is easily available in any health food store. Some people use cotton swabs or toothbrush to remove tonsil stones but it needs to be done very carefully. If you feel that you are not confident to do it, you should not try it.
