Bad Breathe Treatment
Generally bad breath is caused or is a result of bad oral hygiene. However, there is one other factor that could contribute to this problem and that is tonsils. Normally, tonsils cannot be regarded as one of the main causes of bad breath, however, if you have noticed that your breath has started smelling bad at around the same time that your tonsils have started hurting, then chance are that the bad breath is due to tonsils itself. The kind of bad breath that is caused due to tonsils smells very different from the bad breath that is caused due to unhygienic oral habits. When the tonsils get infected, they swell up and form deep indentations. These indentations either develop pus or become pockets in which the food that we consume gets stuck. When this stuck food starts rotting, it starts giving off a rotten smell. To take care of the pus, proper medical attention is required in the form of antibiotics. And to close the indentations that are formed in the tonsils, laser surgery is required. This will ensure that the food particles don’t get stuck in them. For this, you will need to consult an otolaryngologist. Removing the tonsil, just to get rid of the odor, is not recommended.
Apart from this, it would be good idea to visit a dentist to as well to ensure that there are no gum related diseases or cavities causing the odor. Sometimes sinus, or lung infections, or any problems with the digestive system too can lead to this problem. Consulting your physician about the same will also help. Along with this, make it a habit to brush your teeth twice a day as well as gargle your mouth with a mouthwash. However, make sure that the mouthwash does not contain alcohol and your toothpaste does contain chlorine dioxide. If you don’t want to use a mouthwash, add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to a cup of water and use this to rinse or gargle your mouth every night before going to sleep. Flossing too should be done regularly. The taste buds on our tongue too gather food particles, it is therefore a good idea to make the tongue scraper a part of your daily oral hygiene routine. Make it a point to drink a considerable amount of water. This will ensure that your mouth does not remain dry thus reducing the growth of bacteria that is the cause of bad breath.
