Sunburns are a result of excessive exposure to sun. In other words, over exposure to sun due to travel, skin injury or sun tan results in a sun burn. It is accompanied by redness and irritation of the skin, especially within a day of exposure. Severity in sun burns results in sun poisoning. Typical symptoms of sun poisoning include skin peeling and skin abrasions with dehydration. Severe dehydration gives rise to disruption of the electrolyte balance and thereby results in infection. Nausea, temperature rise and feeling of chillness is common. Sunburns can be prevented by following simple precautions!
- Topical application of cider vinegar helps in preventing skin peeling.
- Remember to wear your sunglasses and a hat with a broad brim.
- Cold tea decoction applied on the burns is an effective remedy. The healing action is attributed to the titanic acid in tea.
- Going for a tan before 10 am in the morning and after 4 pm in the evening is helpful.
- A cold pack of vinegar followed by aloe vera gel application is beneficial.
- Apply a sun screen of high sun protection factor ( SPF -15 or more).
- Sun burns are easily relieved by a paste of baking soda, made with cold water.
- Move to a shady area in case the sun is too intense.
- A paste of cucumber works wonders!
Enjoy tanning, but beware of burning!
