Natural Skin Exfoliation
Skin care exfoliation is a technique that is used in beauty treatment all the way to medical applications for calluses and corns. It is a simple technique that basically does away with the dead skin layers that accumulate in the epidermis. It is one of the most natural tools that are used to advance the natural removal of dead skin cells that usually occurs when we bathe, wash, wipe and scratch. Skin is a continuously created part of the body with new skin being generated every month and old ones continuously shed. There are times when this process might be sped up. Medically, the removal of corns and calluses require exfoliation. Corns and calluses are the result of continuous friction causing the skin to blister a few times before turning into a hard mass of dead skin. This is usually the case when footwear is either too tight or does not follow the shape of the foot. The method of removing dead skin cells from calluses and corns requires the use of a very potent plant extract called salicylic acid. This is useful in nearly all exfoliation regimes irrespective of the part of the body being targeted. The calluses should be washed in salicylic acid over the course of a few days until the amount of dead skin is dramatically reduced. Salicylic acid works by breaking down the skin protein that holds the skin together.
Skin is made up largely of a protein called collagen and this is, molecularly, a long fibrous protein that gives skin its specific nature. Other forms of skin care exfoliation are the beauty treatments performed on the face. Here as well, salicylic acid can be used. Incidentally, citric acid from lemons is also a good substitute and due to the rich vitamin C content in it, lemons double up as a bleaching aid as well. The technique of skin care exfoliation is quite simple and requires applying the exfoliating solution to the face and then using a grainy abrasive medium to sandpaper the dead skin off. For complete effectiveness, this is a technique that should be performed every day and a substitute for a regular face-washing regime. Human skin breaks and comes off in microscopic quantities. When this happens in a very high quantity in the scalp, and it is mixed with the natural skin oil, a condition called dandruff occurs. Skin care exfoliation should always be followed up by a moisturizer. This is because the skin oils are usually washed off and a moisturizing cream is a good follow up.
