Natural Cures for Skin Abrasions and Wounds
Everybody has experienced an abrasion at some point of time or another. Abrasions occur when an abrasive material rubs against the skin with speed or impact that is sufficient for it to peel off or scrape the upper layer of the skin. Abrasions can occur because of something as simple as clothes repeatedly chaffing the skin, making it tender and then damaging the layer. Abrasions also occur during a road accident when the skin rubs against the gravel or when a person is rolling down the hill and twigs brush past and against the skin causing damage. Abrasions are usually accompanied by some degree of pain or a “burning” sensation. It is very unlikely that abrasions will cause significant bleeding as this would mean that the wound needs to be particularly deep. Relatively deep wounds are known as lacerations and would require urgent medical attention. As already mentioned, abrasions are rather superficial and the deeper kind of abrasions will tend to leave behind some scar tissue.
It is important to clean an abrasion of any dirt or grit as this will work to prevent skin infection. The primary concern would be to remove or stop and infection from spreading. Under normal circumstances, an abrasion would be cleaned using a mild soap and some water and then cleaned again with some antiseptic wash. The wound must then be covered using an antibiotic cream along with a dry dressing to help the skin wound heal itself. If the dirt cannot be removed with mild soap and an antiseptic wash, it may require a medical health professional or doctor to aid in removal. This is important to prevent infection and so it should not be overlooked. Chances of contracting deadly infections like tetanus are high whenever the skin or flesh is exposed as they are in abrasions.
Aloe vera is well known in helping soothe a number of skin wounds. Apply the pure gel over the abrasion and this should help repair the damage to the skin considerably. Garlic oil will also help in reducing the infection as well as the inflammation. Dilute garlic oil in an equal amount of olive oil and apply it to the affected skin. Garlic oil has strong antimicrobial properties and will prevent the infection of the injury. Do not allow this remedy to stay on for any longer than 30 minuets or else it can cause more harm than damage. This is because garlic is a potent anti-microbial herb. Crushed parsley leaves or marigold flowers, when applied externally over the wound, are also said to be good remedies for treating skin abrasions. Eating healthy is of prime importance as making sure the body gets its nutrients and vitamins will ensure faster healing of skin damage.
