Enlarged Prostate Gland

The prostate is a walnut sized gland that is found in men, just below the bladder. This gland is a very important part of the male reproductive system. The problem arises when the prostate gland enlarges to twice its size or even more and the tissue surrounding it does not expand in the same proportion. When this happens, the enlarged prostate starts pressing against the urethra. This in turn causes urinary problems. These problems could be in the form of wanting to urinate frequently, wanting to urinate immediately, feeling the need to get up in the middle of the night to urinate, finding it difficult to start urinating, finding a reduction in how forcefully the urine flows, finding it difficult to empty the bladder completely, and finding traces of blood in the urine. If not treated immediately, this in turn could lead to kidney or bladder infections, urinary tract infection, development of kidney and bladder stones, and worst of all, cancer of the prostate. Therefore, it is very necessary to ensure that the prostate does not get enlarged.

Natural Remedies for Prostate

Ideally, after the age of 40, men should get their prostates checked along with their regular check-up because inevitably the prostate gland gets enlarged in almost all the men towards the later years of their lives. Apart from the antibiotic treatment that will be administered by your physician for this problem, there are a few things that you can also do at home to take care of this problem. To bring down the swelling, you can start off by first soaking yourself in a bathtub filled with hot water and then soaking yourself immediately in cold water. Soak yourself for at least 20 minutes in hot water and then 20 minutes in cold water, every day, till the swelling goes down. Another thing that will help in bringing down the swelling is drinking carrot juice. You can also combine carrot juice with spinach juice. Not only is this healthy, but is also known to help take care of this condition. In fact, you can continue drinking these juices to ensure that the swelling does not reoccur. Parsley and juniper berries too help in bringing down the swelling. Once the swelling goes down, make sure that you consume lots of tomatoes – raw, in salads, cooked, boiled, juice – in whatever form you can. Tomatoes contain an antioxidant that is so powerful that it actually helps in preventing prostate cancer. Overall, ensure that your diet is low on saturated fats and processed foods, and high on raw vegetables and fruits.
