Remedies for IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, as it is commonly known, can be annoying as well as long term. If you are suffering from IBS, one of the first things you need to know is what is causing this problem in your case. Once you get a handle on the reason, it becomes easier to control the problem as well. You will also see that it is easier to do something about the situation if you approach a solution with specifics, rather than a generalized course of treatment. It is good to be aware that medical science is still unsure as to what are the generic causes of IBS. One of the commonest reasons why IBS occurs is lactose intolerance. Lactose is an enzyme present in milk and almost all milk products. If you are not tolerant towards lactose, you will generally experience bloating, diarrhea, gas and extreme discomfort a short while after you eat any milk-based product. However, it is also good to know that lactose intolerance does not have any generic nature as well. It seems to work differently for different people, specifically varying in severity across the board. In some cases, cheese and yogurt seem to not contribute towards this problem significantly. But it is always better to eliminate all milk products from your diet, just to be on the safe side. This is also an excellent way of determining whether lactose is actually a cause of IBS in your case.
Gas is also a very huge symptom of IBS, and you are better off staying away from all gas-causing products such as cabbage, legumes, corn and aerated drinks. It is better to cut out all sources of gas than to try and guess which one affects you more. In some unusual cases, the foods that contribute to IBS also include wheat, chocolate, alcohol and sugar. These are also common allergens. It is good to know that people who suffer from food allergies can also suffer from IBS frequently. You need to get this aspect medically checked out. Because if you do have food allergies and these are causing IBS in your case, you should know what is making you suffer so you can eliminate it from your diet. Spices are also a common culprit, which can aggravate the symptoms of IBS. Try to stay away from them for a while. In some cases, citrus fruits can also cause IBS. You should check if this is true for you.
