Preventing and Treating Psychosis

Every person goes through phases where you experience mood swings or have a lot of different feelings that make you uncomfortable and uneasy. For example, anxiety, depression and so on but this is generally temporary and goes off in some time. However, in the case of certain people, these feelings are very severe to the extent that it could alter a person’s entire life causing them to take drastic steps. A mental illness may be defined as a state of the person’s mind wherein they experience variety of feelings that are usually extreme. Psychosis is a condition related to the person’s mental health wherein the person is not in touch with reality and behaves in a psychotic manner. Typical symptoms of a person suffering from psychosis are hallucination where the patient can hear voices or see random people, delusions in which case the person is not willing to believe anything despite facts, change in personality, indecisive thinking and extremely weird behavior. The cause for a mental illness is generally psychological that is due to a trauma or a major mishap that a person has gone through either on the personal or professional front.

Treatment is the most important part especially for such patients as one wrong move can have drastic results. You need to treat these patients with a lot of care and comfort. You will need the help of a psychiatrist in most cases. You can try and indulge in aromatherapy that uses essential oils which help in relaxing your mind and body. You can try yoga, meditation, a massage therapy, acupuncture and so on to help reduce the symptoms of mental illness. In a worst case, shock treatment might be the last resort. Speak to your doctor about the different types of exercises that can be done at home as they reduce stress, depression and at the same time energize you improving your overall state of mind. Along with this, it is important that you have a proper diet as it is said to help in improving the structure of your brain which in turn helps you to develop a healthy state of mind. Include a lot of carbohydrates in your meal as they increase the serotonin levels in the brain that calm you down and make you less anxious. Eat carbohydrates like whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables that also are a great source of fiber. Foods that are high in proteins also help in improving your concentration level.
