How to Prevent Razor Burn
Here are some ways to prevent or minimize razor burns:
Tips to Prevent Razor Burn:
• Before you begin shaving, scrub your face with a facial scrub lotion or with a loofah. Scrubbing gently will remove the dead skin and extract the ingrown hair. This will reduce your chances of getting rashes because of a razor burn.
• It would be better if you begin shaving only after a warm shower and after washing your face with warm water because the steam and warm water will soften the facial hair and the skin.
• Wait for sometime, after you wake up. This way, the body fluids that well-up in the face during the day, will disperse.
• You should use new razor blades and be sure to discard the old ones, when they become blunt. If you are using an electronic razor, clean the blades and keep them free of hair.
• Work up the lather with shaving foam or gel, and let the cream sit on your skin for sometime before you begin shaving. This way the skin as well as the facial hair will be soft enough and you will not suffer from razor burns.
• Instead of shaving against the grain of the hair, shave with the grain using short strokes. If you shave against the grain, you might be more susceptible to getting rashes, and ingrown hair.
• You must rinse the blade after every stroke, otherwise the razor will be full of hair and that will prevent you from getting a close shave.
• For a close shave, spread a layer of foam or lather and then shave again. The idea is to keep the skin and hair moist so that it is easier to shave.
• After you complete shaving, wash your face with cold water. This will close the pores and reduce skin irritation.
• Use an aftershave lotion or a facial moisturizer to reduce the burning sensation after you complete shaving. You can choose from the wide variety of balms, aftershaves, ointments, lotions and gels. Aloe vera gel is also known to cool the skin.
Shaving Tips
• If you still get razor burns and have been using a manual razor for a while, then you might like to switch to an electric razor with a gel dispenser.
• Purchase a few new razor and blades, so that if one fine morning, you razor seems blunt, then you can quickly use a new one. Blunt blades and razors can cause razor burns, while a new one can reduce the chances of it.
