Home Remedies for Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an inflammatory disease of the lungs in which there is an alveolar inflammation (alveoli are sacs filled with air in the lungs that absorb oxygen) and filling of the lungs with fluid. Pneumonia is a serious contagious disease and can cause a condition called double pneumonia if left untreated. Pneumonia can be caused by an infection of bacteria, virus, fungi or parasites; by toxins in the body or by inhaling foreign matter; and by physical or chemical injury to the lungs. It can affect persons of all age groups and may lead to death among the elderly and the chronically ill.

The symptoms of pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, difficulty in breathing, and shivering, which may be followed by the sputum turning pink and brownish. Other symptoms include headaches, sweaty skin, blueness of skin, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, joint and muscle pains, and abdominal pain. In children, it may cause convulsions and delirium. When a person is suffering from pneumonia, the body temperature could rise to 105.1? F and the pulse could increase to 150 beats per minute.

Home remedies for pneumonia There are vaccines to treat certain types of pneumonia, but most of it depends on the right treatment and the person’s basic health condition. It can be treated with natural and home remedies as well and is best done in the initial stages of the disease. Most types of pneumonia can be healed in two to six weeks.

Pneumonia Home Remedies

Fenugreek seeds tea will help treat pneumonia in the early acute stages. Drink up to four cups a day, and reduce the number of times as the condition alleviates. This will induce perspiration and expel toxins from the body. For flavor add lime juice to the tea. Drinking this tea while fasting, helps in curing pneumonia. Garlic is excellent for treating pneumonia, and its paste can be applied to the chest to bring down temperature and improve respiration.

Tea brewed from fresh or dry leaves of dandelion helps in speeding up the recovery process. Prepare an infusion of 15 gm sesame seeds and steep it in 250 ml water. Mix this with 1 tbsp of linseed, a pinch of salt, and a dessert spoon honey. Drinking this will help in removing phlegm from the bronchial tubes. To relieve pain, turpentine oil can be applied on the chest, after which the chest should be wrapped in cotton wool. To alleviate the symptoms of pneumonia, sprinkle turmeric powder mixed with warm water on a cloth folded into four, and place it on the chest. On the top of it place a heated brick to bring relief. The diet for pneumonia involves eating more vegetables and fruits. One could also consume their juices made in warm water every two to three hours.
