The pain in the heel is termed as plantar fasciitis; the pain is due to de4velopmet of tears in the plantar fascia ligament.
The pain is due to the inability of the ligament to adjust itself properly. Treatment for plantar fasciitis is not difficult; one got to have a healthy lifestyle. Wearing wrong sized shoes which do not have proper cushion is considered to be the major cause of the pain.
Some people have irregular pattern of exercise, irregularity makes it difficult for the plantar fascia ligament to adjust itself.   Athletes who put lots of stress on their toes are very susceptible to the disease. So, while exercising or performing any physical activities never stress your feet, this might be very harmful for the ligament.
Treatment for plantar fasciitis depends a lot on your ability to provide relaxation to your feet. There are many home care methods which can help you to relieve the pain; rest your feet properly, apply ice to the painful area and you may get a positive result. In some of the cases if the pain is not reducing then you can opt for medicines like  acetaminophen and ibuprofen which may reduce the pain.
Surgery is considered to be the last resort in the treatment for plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciotomy is done, either closed or open, to relive the person out of intense pain. Incision is made of the size of 3 cm to 6 cm in case of open surgery to release fascia whereas in case of closed surgery fascia is released by endoscopy.
In about 90% of the cases the patient experiences relief. The recovery period varies depending on person to person; some might recover in just few weeks while others may take months to recover. Heel hypoesthesia, calcaneal fracture, posterior tibial nerve damage and the rupture of plantar fascia are some of the complications associated with surgery.
