Palpitation

As with any complication of the heart muscle, palpitations of the heart can raise quite a significant amount of concern in the patient as well as his or her near and dear ones. Palpitations of the heart, in simple words, are the irregular beating of the heart muscle where it may actually seem to skip a beat on a recurring basis. When affected by palpitations, the first checks that are normally performed by a physician include correctly indentifying the primary cause of the condition. Some of the most common causes of palpitations include imbalances in the body, the presence of some underlying medical conditions such as anemia and hyperthyroidism as well as an excessive intake of substances such as alcohol, tobacco and caffeine. Over the counter medications that are commonly used to treat ailments such as a common cold can also act as an instigator of heart palpitations. While the most prominent symptom of a heart palpitation is, quite obviously, the feeling that your heart is skipping a beat or a feeling of fullness or fluttering in the chest, the patient may also experience a shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and sweating.

Causes of Heart Palpitations

The treatment of the condition will primarily depend on the underlying condition that is causing it. However, if it is caused by the excessive consumption of some substance, such as caffeine or alcohol, avoiding the triggering substance will go a long way into controlling it. Most home remedies for heart palpitations include making some minor changes to your lifestyle such as reducing the amount of stress and anxiety you deal with on a daily basis. Honey is known to be a very successful home remedy when dealing with palpitations. You should try preparing a mixture using 1 tablespoon of honey, a glass of water and half a cup of lemon juice and drink it just before going to sleep at night. You should also try eating ripe guavas on a daily basis on an empty stomach as it is known to have a calming effect whenever you have a panic attack, which may be quite common when affected by palpitations of the heart. You should make it a point to exercise on a daily basis – while making sure that you do not overdo it. Cook your vegetables lightly before eating them so as to increase the amount of vitamins and minerals that your body will absorb.
