Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and can break easily if they experience any stress or strain. The patient experiencing osteoporosis is thus partially handicapped. It happens because of the disturbance or alteration in composition and texture of bones. There are different reasons, which can cause this. Many people face osteoporosis these days. It is more common in people over the age of 50. However, this does not mean that it cannot occur to people of other age groups.  The occurrence of Osteoporosis in other age groups too is commonly observed these days.

The basic reason for development of osteoporosis is the lack of essential nutrients in the diet. The nutrients whose absence plays a very crucial role in development of Osteoporosis are calcium, vitamin D and phosphorous. The daily diet should ideally be rich in these nutrients if you wish to prevent osteoporosis.

In addition, regular exercises are a very effective remedy for preventing osteoporosis. Researches have shown that the people who regularly exercise right throughout their life have fewer chances of osteoporosis.

Generally, in the old age the bones tend to lose calcium phosphorous and other important constituents. This can lead to Osteoporosis. Therefore, the old people should take special care. The loss cannot be prevented however; the increase of intake of these nutrients maintains their level in the body. Therefore, the aged people should consume food rich in these nutrients. They can also take additional supplements as well.

Prevention is always better. Nevertheless, even with all the care and prevention measures osteoporosis does occur. Even if it occurs, it is important to detect it and do the necessary cure it as early as possible. However, this too is not possible in most of the cases. The symptoms will not appear externally and so the patient will not know about it until a fracture occurs. This is the reason why Osteoporosis is called a salient thief.

If osteoporosis is diagnosed the patient should take care that he does not overstress or overstrain the bones. Medication can be used to cure osteoporosis. Different drugs as biphosphates, teriperatide, strontium ranelate, etc are among the popular ones. These drugs only help the bones to absorb the essential nutrients. Therefore, to make the treatment, it should be supplemented with proper supplement of nutrients. Alternatively, some drugs are also available which just help to relieve the patient from pain.
