Osteoporosis during Pregnancy

Osteoporosis is a condition of the bones wherein they become brittle, fragile and highly susceptible to fracture. The mineral density of the bones is considerably reduced, which translates into a reduced bone mass and deterioration of the bone tissue. This is what causes the bones to become brittle, thin and weak. Although there is no cure for this condition, there are a large number of treatments available that can help in increasing bone density, to prevent potential fractures. This condition is very common in women during menopause. Because during menopause the estrogen levels in a woman’s body fall considerably. Estrogen apparently has a very important role to play when in comes to bone health. It helps in keeping the osteoclasts (they resorb bone) under control while at the same time enabling the osteoblasts (they help form bone) to form more bone.

Here are a few tips that can be used to tackle this condition. Exercise helps in building stronger bones. Thus it is important to include exercise in your daily routine. Even 30 minutes a day could go a long way. Both walking and or jogging 2-3 times in a week can help improve the mineral density of bones. If possible try walking in water (chest deep) as well. This is because the water will help in supporting your body weight along with releasing stress from the joints and bones. Dandelion tea if had once a day will also help in building bone density. Include soy food in your daily diet. As a hormonal imbalance can lead to deterioration in the bone density, consuming soy products will help in balancing the estrogen levels, thus maintaining your hormonal balance. In addition chaste berry also maintains the hormonal balance as they contain vitricin and vitexicarpin, and will work in the same manner.

Another effective remedy for osteoporosis condition is drinking almond milk. Take a few almonds and soak them in a glass of warm water for a couple of hours. Peel them and blend with a glass of either cow’s milk or soy milk. Have food that is rich in calcium, as it is required in order to maintain healthy bones. Dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese, almonds, sardines, salmon and broccoli are sources rich in calcium. Additionally boron is a mineral that assists the body in holding calcium; thus include foods that are rich in this mineral as well.
