Red nose Causes

A red nose is a common condition during the winters or the changing weather. Usually associated with a cold, congestion or flu, a red nose is usually nothing to worry about. It does however, mar your appearance but fortunately, it can usually be treated at home with the simple application of a cold or hot compress.
However, before you begin on deciding how to treat red nose, it is important to note the red nose symptoms and the causes of red nose.

Symptoms of Red Nose

• Redness on the nose and the surrounding facial tissue
• Congestion and runny nose. Occasional streamy eyes too.
• Extreme dryness on the nose.
• Acne.

Usually a red nose is not a health hazard; however, it can be embarrassing because it’s right on the face. This condition is common to both males and females, though tendencies are more in females. It is not age specific and therefore people from any age group can develop a red nose.

Types of red nose:

• Internal red nose – In this kind of redness of nose, the redness is limited only to the internal part of the nose. It is however visible on the face.
• External red nose – In such a kind of nose redness, the redness can be seen on the exterior of the nose. This could be caused due to an underlying medical condition and should be discussed with a medical practitioner if persistent.

Nose Redness Causes:

• Runny nose
• Excessive rubbing and scratching of the nose which causes irritation to the skin
• Common cold
• Infections in the upper respiratory tract
• Allergic reactions
• Hay Fever
• Menopause
• Hypothyroidism or other thyroid disorders
• Stuffy nose
• Acnes
• Hot flashes
• Sun burn or sun allergies
• Excessive smoking
• Sinusitis
• Alcohol consumption in a chronic manner
• Rosacea
• Anxiety
• Stress, both physical and emotional
• Spending too much time in air conditioned rooms
• Spicy Food
• Staph Infections
• Allergic reactions to various facial products.

Usually one needn’t be worried about a red nose since it gets treated on its own. However, if you are extremely particular, you may get yourself checked for any abnormal underlying conditions, especially if your nose is swollen as well. To cure red nose, it is important to identify the cause. If you have a cold or congestion, chances are, the red nose will get treated upon the treatment of the underlying cause.
