When you have a cold, you may hit your local pharmacy to find cough medicines, aspirin or other treatments that will help you get through your illness.  While you can treat the symptoms of your cold, you cannot cure a cold with medication.  The cold must run its course before you get better.  For this reason many people look to natural treatments and home remedies to help ease the symptoms of their cold.

Reach for the Vitamin C:
One of the most effective ways to treat a common cold is to reach for the vitamin C. Vitamin C does a great job of helping you overcome your illness.  You can get vitamin C by eating fresh fruits such as citrus fruits that are packed with vitamin C.  You can also take supplements such as oral tablets or flavored fruit drops.  The important thing is that you get your vitamin C when you’re not feeling while.

Bees Know Best:
Need another natural treatment for the common cold?  Many people believe that honey is a great treatment for the common cold. How can this be? It is believed that honey coats the inside of your throat and helps relieve the itching and burning sensation that you fell when you are suffering from a cold.  Honey is a great natural alternative for all ages except for infants under the age of one.

Try Echinacea:
You may have heard of Echinacea or seen it at your local drugstore. It is fast becoming a popular natural treatment for the common cold as well as for ear infections. Echinacea comes in tablet form and if you are suffering from a cold, you should take two or 3 grams per day, as soon as you start to feel sick. In fact, this herbal supplement is often used in many over-the-counter cold and cough treatments.
