Phlegm Balls

Phlegm is basically mucus like secretion of the nasal membranes that is always present as it is required to perform various lubricating actions in the respiratory tract. Phlegm tends to become a problem when it is produced in excess. This occurs when the individual is suffering from an infection of the upper respiratory tract, cold, flu and so on. Sometimes, the phlegm may solidify to some extent and form phlegm balls which may be expelled when the individual is coughing. Sometimes there are certain structures in underground caves of our that are small globs of microbes which are known as “phlegm balls”. These are mostly found living in the caves in underground streams. These microbial communities that are subterranean play an important role in the formation of caves. The phlegm balls tend to produce an acid that causes the limestone walls of the caves to dissolve thereby expanding the caves. In case of phlegm in humans, phlegm balls may cause a lot of irritation and are annoying as they are accompanied with constant coughing and sneezing. The home remedy to get rid of phlegm balls and even overall phlegm is to drink plenty of fluids as this will ensure that the phlegm does not thicken and remains thin. Thereby it will be easier to expel the phlegm balls. One can also thin the phlegm by keeping the air moist with a humidifier or enjoying a hot shower or a sauna.

A home remedy for phlegm and phlegm balls is to drink some concentrated lemon juice as this helps in clearing the respiratory and the nasal tracts. Honey is also an effective natural remedy for phlegm and may be consumed along with some ginger and warm water. Honey is an effective treatment for phlegm and phlegm balls as it has a natural warming effect that helps in ensuring that the production of phlegm is in control. One may also mix some mashed raisins and ground pepper to get relief from a stuffy nose or chest congestion caused by phlegm. Similarly, phlegm balls can also be effectively handled by eating fruits and other foods like oranges that are rich in Vitamin C. The Vitamin C in oranges boosts the immunity levels of the individual and protects them from further infections as well. Similarly, one’s diet should also be modified to eliminate fatty foods while suffering from phlegm and phlegm balls. This is because fatty foods are difficult to digest and tend to stagnate in the stomach for longer periods of time.
