Stomach Pain Remedies:

Abdominal pain refers to pain that is experienced in the abdomen. It could refer to pain arising from the muscles of the abdominal wall, but it is generally used for pain that arises from the internal organs that are contained within the abdominal cavity, such as the stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, small intestine and colon. Pain experienced in other organs that do not lie within the abdomen such as lungs, kidney or uterus can also cause pain in the abdomen. There are various factors that can cause abdominal pain such as inflammatory conditions such as colitis, appendicitis or diverticulitis. Obstructions of the organs such as blockage in the bile duct due to gall stones, obstruction of the colon and enlargement of the liver due to hepatitis, can also result in abdominal pain. Such pain could also occur due to a condition called irritable bowel syndrome, the cause of which is unknown. It is thought to result due to abnormal movements of the muscles of the intestine or oversensitivity of nerves in the intestine which leads to discomforting sensations.

Determining the causes of abdominal pain will take into consideration factors such as the manner in which the pain commences, the area in which the pain occurs and the pattern in which the pain occurs. Pain due to gall stones usually begins suddenly and occurs in the right area of the upper abdomen. Appendicitis pain is experienced in the lower abdomen on the right side. Diverticulitis pain is felt in the lower abdomen on the left side. Cramps that occur in waves could be indicative of intestinal contractions or swelling of the intestine. Pancreatitis causes steady severe pain that is felt in the upper abdomen as well as the upper back.

Abdominal pain is usually relieved by slowly drinking water or clear fluids. One can also suck on ice chips to alleviate the pain. It is best to avoid solid foods in the initial hours when the pain occurs. Hot compresses are especially effective in reducing abdominal pain. If the pain is due to indigestion then you can consume a mixture of carom seeds, black salt, lemon juice and warm water. Mint juice may also be consumed for relief from stomach pain due to stomach upset. Taking lemon and honey tea is known to be an effective remedy for abdominal pain. Ginger is also believed to be highly effective in treating stomach pain. The best way, however, is to first determine the cause of the pain. The condition can then be accordingly treated to obtain relief from the pain.
