Puffy eyes are a common problem, characterized mainly by the inflammation of the eyelids on account of allergic reactions to chemicals or seasonal allergens, cold or sinus infections, high stress levels and lack of sleep. Puffy eyes can be easily cured at home and are generally a temporary condition. High stress levels and long working hours generally mean a routine lack of sleep. Make sure you get at least eight hours of sleep to avoid having puffy eyes in the morning. Read your cosmetics labels carefully to ensure you are not allergic to any of the chemical ingredients in them. If your work requires you to spend long hours in front of the computer, make sure to take frequent breaks and massage your eyes gently to avoid dryness and puffiness in your eyes.

Raw cucumber and potato are effective natural remedies to cure puffy eyes. Place a slice of potato or cucumber over your eyes to help relieve puffiness and soothe your eyes. You can also make a mixture of a slice each of potato and cucumber and a cup of basil tea. Apply this mixture on your eyes for immediate relief from puffy eyes. You can also make a poultice with potato and apply it on your eyes to help reduce puffiness. This mixture also works well as a cold compress. A cold compress is normally very effective in reducing inflammation, and the simplest cold compress can be carried out with a cotton cloth soaked in cold water. Similarly, a used tea bag that has been frozen is another effective cold compress for puffy eyes. Cotton soaked in cold milk and placed over your eyes will help reduce puffiness. Apply cotton soaked in cold rose water over your eyes to help soothe them and to reduce inflammation. Egg whites are a good remedy for puffy eyes. Beat the egg whites and add some witch hazel to it before applying it evenly over your face and under your eyes. This helps reduce puffiness of the eyes. Lavender is also an effective cure for puffy eye lids. Using an eye cream that contains vitamin E as a base may help treat puffy eyes.

An excessive intake of salt may cause the area around the eyes to retain fluid and thereby appear puffy. Avoid salty foods to help reduce the fluid accumulation around your eyes. Drinking plenty of water and other fluids also reduces chances of water retention and helps flush harmful toxins from the body.
