Home Remedy for Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums, also known as Gingivitis, is the inflammation, swelling and bleeding of the gum tissues. It can be caused by a number of issues; however, to cure it one needs to know and understand the underlying reason of what triggers it off. The main reasons are bacteria coating the teeth, and if the individual does not brush the teeth thoroughly, then this coating will transform into a white sticky substance called plaque. If it is left untreated, it can affect the gums through the teeth and then move toward the bone causing a crater that might need to be surgically treated.

If you notice your gums bleeding while brushing your teeth, it is the first sign that you have gingivitis. Once the plaque is formed on your teeth, the bacteria produce toxins which irritate your gums, keeping them swollen and red. This leads to the destruction of the tissues connecting your gums to your teeth and, eventually, the tooth to the bones causing a crater to form. The infection will then go on to attack the bony structure. Once that has happened, it has progressed to what is known as periodontitis which is an irreversible gum disease.

Bleeding gums causes can also be:

• Injury or trauma
• Systemic such as diabetes, liver disorders, etc.
• Pregnancy and hormonal changes
• Vitamin deficiency (especially Vitamin K and Vitamin C)
• Over usage of blood thinning medication

The following are symptoms of gingivitis:

• Bleeding and the slightest touch or injury
• Red, tender or swollen gums
• Bad breath
• Recession of gums from teeth
• Loose and shaky teeth
• Sensitive teeth

The most effective method to prevent yourself from getting gingivitis is to make sure you follow a good dental regime. Brushing your teeth properly twice a day will go a long way into making sure you don’t have to deal with these problems.

A few natural cures include rinsing your mouth with warm water that contains a dissolved pinch of salt. Doing this twice a day increases circulation and reduces gum swelling. Green tea helps keep your mouth fresh and does away with the bad odor. Increase your Vitamin C intake by eating a lot of organic fruits and vegetables.

Finally, no matter how well you or often you brush your teeth, it is very hard to reach the areas between your teeth and below your gums. The habit of flossing your teeth becomes very handy here as you can carry the dental floss wherever you go.
