Our hands play an important role in our day to day activities but we hardly bother to care for them. In the bargain we end up with bad, broken and damaged nails that are not a pleasant situation to watch or have.

The human nail is made of a hard protein called keratin. Nails have been naturally designed to help protect the end of the fingers and toes. It also helps us in handling objects. Proper care is must to make them look healthy and beautiful.

Manicuring is one of the most important requirements for ensuring proper health and looks for the hands and nails. Basic manicuring should be done at least once a week.
Applying nail polish is also one of the best methods to make our nails look beautiful. Drinking lots of water keeps our body hydrated and helps to maintain a healthy set of nails. Often the problem of weak nails can be attributed to inadequate water intake in te body.

How we use our nails is also important. Nails should be delicately used for the purpose it is made for, rather than for picking, scratching, digging or pinching. Wrong usage often leads to broken cracked or disfigured nails. Calcium intake has to be increased for a healthy set of nails. Yellowish nails or crumby nails can be due to fungal infections which affect the inner and the outer layer of the nail. Prompt treatment goes a long way in ensuring that such problems don’t recur. It is recommended that prompt advice is taken from a qualified physician immediately.

One important thing is to avoid nail biting. This should be avoided at all costs. .
