Migraine Headache Diet | Healthy Migraine Diet

A migraine is classified as a severe headache that causes immense discomfort and has serious implications. A migraine is normally caused by extreme stress that causes an electrolytic imbalance in the Autonomic Nervous System (AMS). It may also be caused by other factors like hormonal imbalances. People afflicted with migraines face muscle tension in the neck and upper back, which adversely affects their state of physical well being.

Migraine Diet

The diet to alleviate migraine problems is as follows:

• You are recommended to fast on orange juice for a day or two. Drink orange juice in hot water every two hours during this period.

• Once you start recovering, you may consume other alternatives in juices including vegetable juices like cucumber juice and carrot juice.

• You should resort to an all fruits diet for at least five days.

• Vitamin B3 is particularly instrumental in curing migraines and as such, foods rich in this vitamin must be given to the patient. The foods rich in Vitamin B3 are tuna, mushroom, turkey, salmon, sunflower seeds, and peanuts.

• The exclusive intake of Vitamin B3 may cause a deficiency of other vitamins and as such, the patient must consume foods rich in other vitamins including Vitamin B complex, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and others.

• The patient must be given foods rich in minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals work together to relieve migraines. The rich sources of these minerals are kale, broccoli, spinach, wheat germ, seafood, and peas.

• People who suffer from frequent migraines are recommended to consume slices of fresh garlic along with their food.

• The patient may also consume ginger juice to alleviate the ailment.

• There are certain foods that must be restricted in the diet of people afflicted with migraines. Some such foods are cheese, chocolate, processed meat, avocados and raisins.

• The fruits that must not be consumed as a part of a migraine diet include banana and plum. Migraine patients must also not eat beans, nuts, and vinegar.

• Caffeinated drinks and alcoholic beverages must not be consumed.

• Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is one chemical that may enhance your risk of palpitations, blood pressure and may cause stress. MSG can also trigger a migraine attack and must be avoided in any migraine diet. This chemical is extensively used in Chinese cuisines and hence, migraine afflicted individuals must not consume Chinese foods.

These are some of the diet remedies to treat the affliction, but you are advised to consult a doctor in case there is an underlying cause for this condition.
