Mental Breakdown

Stress is inevitable in today’s world and practically every single person undergoes it. However, what defines a person is his strong will and the ability to deal with stress. Mental breakdown is not a clinical term and it refers to an episode of major depression or mental disorder that a person experiences which manifests as an inability to function or perform daily activities. The primary causes of mental breakdown are stress, depression, sudden changes or major mishaps in life like death of a loved one, a broken relationship, a loss of job and so on. It can also be the result of a combination of hereditary and other environmental factors. This would entail that a person may be suffering from a hereditary condition of depression and also goes through a serious loss or a major failure in life.. The factors are varied and can be either on the person’s personal or professional front. A weak nervous system can also cause a mental breakdown. Symptoms generally are behaviors that indicate a person is having a mental breakdown. Such symptoms include disinterest in daily activities, loss of energy, loss of appetite, insomnia, disorientation, confused state of mind, uncontrollable crying and extreme feeling of worthlessness, guilt and despair.

It is important that you get the person’s self confidence back for which psychotherapy may be needed. A proper amount of exercise, rest and a healthy diet play a great role in treating people with a mental breakdown. Make sure the person sleeps well or at least rests in bed for a couple of hours if not sleeping. Eat food rich in carbohydrates and vitamin B as it helps to strengthen the nervous system. One should also completely avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, all white products, sugar, white rice and strong condiments. Make sure the person has three meals a day. A relaxing bath helps with irritability and insomnia. Boil 1 pound of pine needles or braches in 2 gallons of water for about 15 to 20 minutes on low heat. Filter this and pour in a full bath. To prevent mental breakdown it is essential that you take prompt action on realizing the symptoms. Seek psychological help if needed and try to stay healthy physically as well as mentally by being pro active in your approach. Make sure you sleep well, increase moments where you can have fun. Laughter is the best medicine to de stress yourself and never miss an opportunity to do so.  If you feel the stress getting too much take a vacation or relax for some time with family and close friends.
