I always envy people who say they are able to fall asleep no sooner their heads touch the pillow. My situation is very different. For years I’ve been finding it very difficult indeed to sleep. Then I found the lack of sleep start to affect my health. Quite apart from moods of irritability and bad temper, I began to feel run down all the time, tired; always drained of energy.
Then someone suggested Chamomile tea steeped for 3 minutes with a bit of milk and 2 Tbsp natural honey, a hot shower. She said drink it as you lie down to rest with a good book. Can’t say it worked immediately, but over time, it’s started to show results.
Personally, I find the following suggestions also very helpful. Don’t have a heavy meal with a lot of alcohol before bedtime. Avoid tea or coffee because they’re stimulating. Likewise, avoid unnecessary sleep disturbing draughts. See that your bedroom is dark enough. Outside light can often disturb you. Best make alterations to your sleeping conditions if you are sensitive to noise. Lastly, try a warm bath before going to bed to help you relax.
