Hyperpigmentation Causes and Home Remedies
Causes of Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is a condition that is characterized by the darkening of ones skin. Our skin gets its color from a certain pigment known as melanin. People with fairer skin tones generally have reduced levels of melanin as compared to people with darker skin tones. An increase in this particular pigment is what causes hyperpigmentation or the darkening of skin. Hyperpigmentation could be caused due to a hormonal imbalance, side effect of medication, excessive sun exposure and so on. Although it does not have any serious implications on one’s health, the appearance of discolored patches or blotches on the skin may affect a person’s self confidence to a large extent.
Home Remedies for Hyperpigmentation
There are several home remedies that can help in treating this particular condition. Lemon juice is considered to be one of the best solutions for this skin problem as it is deemed to be a natural bleaching agent. Apply a thin layer of freshly squeezed lemon juice on to the affected area and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the area with cold water after the stipulated time frame. This treatment if performed regularly is known to yield positive results.
Potato is also considered to be equally beneficial for hyperpigmentation. Blend a medium sized potato, in order to squeeze out the juice. Apply a liberal layer of this juice on to the concerned area and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off later with some cold water. As an alternative you could also place thin slices of the vegetable on to the darkened skin, it will work just as well. This remedy has to be performed daily, on a regular basis, till you begin to notice results. Mix together half a teaspoon of almond oil and a teaspoon each of honey, lemon juice and milk powder. Apply this thick paste onto the concerned area and let it dry naturally for 10-15 minutes. Rinse the application off with some lukewarm water. This treatment will not only help in lightening your skin tone, but it will also give your skin a natural glow.
Grate one tomato and squeeze out the juice. Mix a teaspoon of this juice with one teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Apply this mixture on to the area of concern and leave it on for 10-15 minutes, after which wash it off. This remedy will also prove to be beneficial.
