What are Hives:

Hives are a kind of immune system reaction or allergy that happens when something triggers off the release of chemicals like histamine. Hives are generally an allergic reaction to something. Hives might be accompanied by serious symptoms like difficulty in breathing, wheezing, swelling in the mouth, and difficulty in swallowing or breathing.

Symptoms of hives:

Symptoms of hives on face and hives in general include –

• Itchiness, swelling and pain

• Large red patches or rings

• Itchy welts all over your body

• Varying shapes that keep disappearing and reappearing within minutes or hours

• Raised pink lesions all over your body

Anything can trigger off hives. However, you might want to go over the food products that you have been consuming as certain foods are known to cause hives. These foods include:

• Soy, wheat, shellfish, milk, tree nuts, eggs and peanuts

• Antibiotics like sulfa drugs and penicillin

• Additives in food

Other causes:

• Viral infections

• Stings and insect bites

• Latex

• Stress

• Exposure to heat or cold

• Hereditary

Skin hives treatment:

It is very important to visit your physician the moment you have an outbreak of hives. Since hives are generally caused by a chemical known as histamine, the doctor will prescribe antihistamine medication.

Home remedies for hives treatment:

• Try to find out the cause of the allergic reaction. Speak with your doctor, and try to go over the things that you feel might have caused the reaction.

• Try using a cool compress to get some relief from the itching and pain.

• Calamine lotion might provide relief too.

• Even milk of magnesia is used to provide relief from the itching.

• Herbal tea is known soothe frayed nerves. Brew yourself a cup of chamomile tea. You can also try other flavors like peppermint, catnip or passionflower.

• Fill a tub with warm water and mix in ½ cup each of baking soda and cornstarch. Soak yourself in this water to get relief.

• Applying aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil onto the affected areas is said to bring relief from hives.

• You can pop capsules of cayenne pepper to begin the healing procedure.

• Acupressure is another complementary therapy that you can resort to. A therapist will massage the trapezius points between the shoulder and the neck. This might clear the red ringed patches on your skin.
