Infected Ear Home Remedies:

The ear is composed of the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear and the most common types of ear infections are otitis media, which is an infection of the middle ear; and otitis externa, which is an infection of the outer ear. External ear infection may develop due to a fever, cold or infections of the upper respiratory tract. The affected area is the part between the eardrum and outer part of the ear. Middle ear infection affects the area inside the eardrum. Bacteria or viruses may enter here causing inflammation and fluid accumulation. There may also be pain and fever accompanying this. In severe cases the eardrum may perforate in order to dispel the built-up fluid, resulting in hearing loss. This type of ear infection is common in children.

Ear infections in adults mostly occur when the eustachian tube, which regulates air pressure and drains the fluid in the ear through the nasal pathway, becomes infected. This takes place when mucus and fluid accumulates in the tube. The case of the common cold may lead to fluid building up in the tube. Post nasal drip may also be a factor. Ear infections could occur even when there is no other illness. Blowing of the nose sometimes causes the mucus to get pushed into the eustachian tube. Water accumulating in the ear after taking a bath could also make the ear prone to infection. When infection occurs in the ear, there could be pain and pressure. The pressure is experienced because the inner ear tissue becomes swollen due to the infection. A temporary period of hearing loss may also be experienced as sound is blocked as a result of the swelling.

Garlic has antiseptic properties and a couple of drops of garlic juice will help to treat ear infection. Warm olive oil is also helpful and can be put into the ear. Lemon juice added to the ear is effective in combating the bacteria. Juice of an onion will also help to heal ear infection. Adding 2-3 drops of colloidal silver to the ear, is a well known pain relieving remedy, and may bring relief from an ear infection.
