Natural Cures for Toenail Bruising

Most scientists, while there is an opposition to this school of thought, believe that the nails on the fingers and toes act as a protective layers over the parts of the fingers and toes where there is a large gathering of sensitive nerve endings. While most people will generally consider the nails to be nothing more than aesthetically appealing accessories, the protection provided by these small units are very beneficial to every individual as they are one of the hardest parts of the human body. This is the main reason that even the smallest physical trauma to the nails can exert a huge amount of pain to the individual. If there is a bruise just beneath the toenail, it is known as a subungal hematoma and lifts the nail off the underlying nail bed. This condition is known to be extremely painful and could even lead to an eventual discarding of the nail. Toenails are also known to crack, most commonly, as a result of the wearing of excessively tight foot wear. If your nails have grow too long, they may cramp up within the shoe and the added moisture in tight footwear will make your nail more prone to breakage.

In order to treat bruised toe, you could try to drain the fluid at home, with the help of a sterile needle. Although the best option would be to visit your local doctor or podiatrist. If choosing to perform the drainage at home, bathe your toe in some salt water and apply a sterile dressing to the wound until it has healed. Cover the nail with a band aid to prevent from catching onto your socks and, if the nail comes loose, do not attempt to tear the nail off. Your could try cutting the nail off with a nail cutter as you would with any other nail, but again, the best option would be to visit a podiatrist. A bruised toenail can take an inordinate amount of time to heal. Some may even take up to 12 months until the nail actually grows clear, so this condition requires the sufferer to have quite a bit of patience. For cracked nails, you may want to make sure that your nails are not reacting to some of the nail polish that you use as this could result in the development of a crack in the nail. However, cracked nails will usually heal themselves although you could apply a bandage to bridge the crack, and help expedite the healing process.
