What is Sunburn

Sunburn is a burn caused due to overexposure to the sun’s rays. It can also be caused due to tanning lamps and UV lights. Usually it begins with darkening of the skin and leads to chapping, discoloration, and blistering. Long term exposure may develop into malignant melanoma. Sunburn on the face can be extremely painful and it seems like the body is shutting down quite unsightly. It usually results in swollen eyelids and sore lips. Sunburn symptoms could include chills, fever, and flu-like symptoms, nausea, and vomiting. Prevention of sunburn is the best option, and natural products are more helpful than anesthetic medications that claim to protect you.

Home remedies for sunburn. Here are few home remedies that will help you prevent and heal sunburns.

• If you have sunburns it means you are dehydrated, so it is best to drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices to nourish the body, improve circulation, and remove toxins.

• A paste of turmeric, barley and yogurt in equal amounts can be applied on the affected areas.

• Apply ice cold whole milk on the sunburn to cool and soothe the skin. Apply generously with a cotton ball or pour it on the face.

• Aloe vera is an excellent sunscreen and its paste can be applied before setting out in the sun and is a natural block to the sun’s harmful rays.

• Sandal wood paste is excellent to cool sunburn and also heal them. Mix it with rose water to dilute it and also avoid stretching the skin.

• Placing tea bags or applying cucumber, potato or tomato juice is very helpful for sunburns. Mix tomato juice with buttermilk in a ratio of one is to six to heal sunburns. They are excellent for the face, especially for the skin under the eyes.

• Place cabbage or lettuce leaves on the face, which have been refrigerated earlier, to cool and reduce sunburns.

• You can massage the face with coconut oil to relieve sunburns.

• Ice can also be applied to soothe a sun burnt face.

• Bathing in cold water to relax and rejuvenate you. Wash your face with cold water to bring relief and do this as often as you can.

• Apply honey and lemon juice on the face to lighten the tanned skin.

• Mix tomato, cucumber and lemon juice and apply on face to heal and refresh your face.

• Massage your face regularly with coconut, olive, or almond oil to replenish the skin and reduce the tan. This also prevents wrinkles and quick aging of skin that can be triggered due to overexposure to sun.
