Sore Throat Mucus

Sore throat: When you get a sore throat it’s quite likely that the mucous membranes of the lower pharynx have been acutely inflamed. You know your throat is sore when you have difficulty swallowing and experience a burning sensation. The throat may remain dry or the membrane may discharge certain secretions.

Sore throats are generally caused because of some bacterial or viral infection of the nasal passages or tonsils. It can also lead to the flu or cold. Sore throat can be characterized by the presence of a light colored mucus and a dry cough. Unless the situation is really bad, sore throats can be cured with home treatments.

Causes: The strep bacteria are notorious for causing sore throats. Irritants and allergens can also cause sore throats.

Symptoms: You know you have a sore throat if you experience any or all of these symptoms –
•    Yellow or white patches at the back of the throat or on the tonsils
•    Swollen neck glands
•    Fever
•    A burning and itchy sensation in the throat that lasts for 2-4 days

Home Remedies for Sore Throat

If you have got a sore throat, then we suggest you begin self care to get relief at the earliest.

•    While you may not want to drink water as the throat hurts terribly, drinking eight to ten glasses of water everyday is necessary to flush out the toxins and keep your body hydrated. You can have warm water at this would be easier to swallow and will help to soothe your throat.

•    Drink a lot of warm beverages like soups, tea and milk to get relief.

•    Heat some water and mix salt in it. Use this mixture for saline gargling. Do this every few hours to get relief from the throat irritation.

•    Avoid eating cold foods like ice-cream and do not drink cold beverages as this might worsen the situation.

•    Heat water and add chopped ginger, peppercorns and leaves of the Holy Basil. Simmer for sometime and then add a spoonful of honey to the mixture. Strain the concoction and drink it while it is still warm. Keep drinking cups of this medicinal beverage every few hours for relief.

•    Heat milk and add turmeric powder, freshly-ground pepper and chopped ginger. Simmer for sometime and then drink the beverage while it is still comfortably hot.

•    Another folk remedy suggests that you should mix Aloe Vera juice in warm water and use this water for gargling.

•    Mix three spoonfuls of clover honey, a spoon of cayenne pepper and another spoonful of cider vinegar in a glass of warm water. Use this water for gargling.

•    Rest a lot as this is good for your immune system.
