Home Remedies For Migraines

Migraines are recurring headaches that usually affect only one side of the head. The pain, however, is immense and people suffering from migraines are known to show symptoms like irritability and exhaustion. Since it is a direct result of either diet deficiencies or an overly hectic lifestyle, migraines cannot be cured by allopathic medicines. Pain killers only worsen matters and are not advised.

As mentioned before, an excessively hectic daily schedule is right at the top when it comes to causing migraines. Healthy sleep and adequate rest are a prerequisite to rid yourself of migraines. Also avoid excessive smoking and drinking and consistent overwork. In some cases, migraines are also caused due to the consumption of certain types of drugs. Consult a medical practitioner to fully understand the drugs you take.

Juice from fresh red grapes is very effective in fighting migraines. Drink this without adding any water twice each day. Cabbage leaf compress is another known reliever. Crush a few cabbage leaves, tie them in a wet cloth and apply on the forehead for an extended period of time. Keep replacing the leaves with fresh ones. Lemon crust also is an efficient cure. Grind it into a fine paste, apply on the forehead and leave it on for an hour. This one is known to be a long lasting cure. Carrot juice too is an excellent remedy. Mix it with spinach, beet and cucumber juices to maximize results.

Migraines can be treated effectively by cleansing the body of toxins. Fasting on juices like orange juice, carrot and cucumber juice will rid your body of toxins and bring sustained relief. On days of fasting drink lots of warm water to cleanse your bowels. Additionally, do not consuming too much of wheat flour products, sugar and tinned food. Confectionary, rich cakes and pastries, greasy foods, pickles, condiments and sauces are better avoided. Also eat frequently and drink lots of water. Caffeine is another product to be strictly stayed away from.

Niacin is a vitamin that effectively combats migraines. It is richly found in yeast, green leafy vegetables, nuts, tomatoes, sunflower seeds and fish. Include these foods in your diet to expedite relief. A hot bath twice a day will also alleviate the pain considerably. Follow up the bath with a cold compress to the head and a hot compress on the back of the neck. Exercise regularly. Fresh air walks in the mornings and evenings are best.
