Infant Coughs

Infancy is a very delicate stage in your child’s development. If you infant has developed a cough, you should consult your baby’s doctor to be on the safe side. You don’t have to be too alarmed, since coughing is your baby’s way of getting its chest and throat free of various irritants. Babyhood coughs are quite recurrent and common. However, you should beware of other symptoms that might accompany this, such as fevers or wheezing. Do check with your pediatrician about the age when you can use tea as a remedy. As with an adult, fluids and rest are most beneficial in case of an infant’s cough.

Natural Remedies for Infant Cough

One simple measure which can provide immense reprieve for your little one is a warm bath. There are certain oils, like sage or eucalyptus which usually facilitate the decongestion of your baby’s airways, allowing him or her to breathe a lot more easily. This is because of the vapors caused by a warm bathtub with such oils. Rosemary, thyme and peppermint are other oils which can help. These baths can induce both sleep and relaxation in your infant. Certain light teas can prove to be beneficial for your baby. Remember to add similar effective herbs like thyme, peppermint and sage. Another great way to prepare your baby’s tea is with licorice. Its benefits lie in its antibacterial properties. These have a relaxing effect. Also, since it is rather nice to taste, your baby will be more likely to enjoy this remedy. You should administer this tea about thrice every day. Try to keep it warm so that it soothes your baby’s throat at the same time. A humidifier can often help. Eucalyptus oil can be used in other ways. You can tenderly give your infant’s back as well as the chest a rub using a few drops of this oil in water. This should be done at night to help the baby to breathe better. If you combine this rub with a humidifier, the results should be better. Another thing to keep in mind is that not only is breast milk a great way to fortify your child’s overall health, it can also ensure that he or she stays hydrated. This is a great way of suppressing that cough naturally.
