Home remedies for Dark Eyes

The appearance of dark circles under the eyes can be a cause for worry for anyone. These dark circles are as common as they are unwanted. This common beauty problem can make you look tired and stressed even when you are not. Not only are these dark circles embarrassing but can also mar the charm of the face and cause a person to have a lower self image.

Causes of Dark Circles Under Eyes

These dark circles are actually caused due to the appearance of the dark blood vessels under the delicate skin around the eyes. If this delicate skin thins down and becomes dry, the dark circles become more apparent. There are various reasons why the skin could thin and appear dark. Heredity is the most common cause. Usually, the thinness of skin around the eyes is transmitted through families. However, environmental factors like allergies, lack of sleep and fatigue can also cause the skin around the eyes to become thin. The bone structure of some people is such that there is a formation of shadows under the eyes that cause them to appear dark.

In fact, excessive exposure to the sun can also cause the skin to become dark and dry. It is therefore recommended that you protect your eyes from the sun as best as you can. Though these dark circles can form on your face anytime during your lifetime, there are stronger chances of their appearing in the later years of your life. As you grow older, the texture of your skin changes and you may begin to develop dark circles under your eyes.

Here are some quick tips and home remedies you can use for dark circles:

• Squeeze the juice of a cucumber by grating a small piece. Now soak two balls of cotton in this juice and simply put them on your eyes. Let the soaked cotton remain on your eyes for about twenty minutes and then remove them. Your eyes will feel refreshed and rejuvenated. If you do not have cucumber, potatoes can also be used.

• Soak two balls of cotton in rosewater and then put on your closed eyes. Let them remain for about half an hour and then remove them.

• Soak a few tea bags in cold water and then apply it on your eyes. If you feel this is very messy, you can brew a chamomile tea and soak a washcloth in it. Cool it and then spread it over your eyes. Remove after keeping it for about 30 minutes.
