Home Remedies for Cystitis

An inflammation of the urinary bladder is referred to as cystitis. This disease may affect people of all age groups and both sexes, but is most commonly found in middle aged women who are sexually active. The most common cystitis is called traumatic cystitis which is caused by a bruise during sexual intercourse, making the bladder prone to bacterial infection. Other forms of the ailment are interstitial cystitis, hemorrhagic cystitis, and eosinophilic cystitis.

The ailment is caused by a bacterial infection of the lower part of the urinary tract, namely the urethra and bladder, which is otherwise sterile. The affliction causes inflammation and irritation in the area of infection. The symptoms of the ailment are painful urination, pressure in the lower pelvis, frequent urination and the abnormal color of urine or blood in the urine.

Cystitis Remedies

Some of the easy home remedies to cure the ailment are as follows:

• Cucumber juice can be effectively used to cure cystitis on account of its diuretic property. You should consume a cup of cucumber juice mixed with a teaspoon each of lemon juice and honey, at least thrice a day.

• Freshly extracted juice of the flowers of drumstick is also a good remedy to treat cystitis. You are recommended to consume a teaspoon of this drumstick juice, mixed with half a teaspoon of coconut water.

• The juice of radish leaves is also effective in treating cystitis. You must consume this juice every day on an empty stomach for best results.

• A decoction made of fresh lady’s finger and water is also effective in curing the ailment.

• Lemon has proved very effective in the treatment of cystitis. You may add a teaspoon of lemon juice in 180ml boiling water and consume this extract thrice a day. This will reduce the burning sensation and also alleviate bleeding caused by the cystitis.

• The patient may also consume spinach juice, mixed with an equal quantity of coconut water, twice a day.

• The patient may also be given sandalwood oil to treat the ailment. The sandalwood oil must be given in a dose of five drops in a day, and then the dosage may be gradually raised to ten to thirty drops in a day.

• The patient may be given barley gruel, mixed with buttermilk and lime. This is an excellent diuretic which will effectively help relieve the symptoms of cystitis.
