Home Remedies For Constipation

Constipation is a common digestive disorder in which the stomach and the intestines are unable to digest food properly and completely, resulting in difficulty in the passage of stools. The most common symptoms of this condition are irregular bowel movements, painful, infrequent and inadequate excretion, heavy feeling in the abdomen, lack of appetite and nausea. Stress, emotional upheavals and sleeplessness can also cause constipation. A few changes in the diet and eating pattern can almost always cure constipation. It is essential that you eat regularly according to a fixed schedule. Skipping meals, eating too much at one go, and munching on deep-fried, fat and sugar rich snacks at odd hours and between meals are often responsible for constipation. Drink plenty of water to help proper digestion of food and to keep the system clean. Include lots of raw vegetables and fruits, whole grains, sprouts and salads, as they provide the body with the roughage and fiber necessary for proper and easy movement of bowels. You must also engage yourself in some form of regular physical exercise like walking, jogging or swimming. This aids proper metabolism and helps the body consume ingested food easily.

Besides these, you may also follow a few simple home remedies to treat constipation. Before going to bed every night, mix a spoonful of honey in a glass of water that has been first boiled and then cooled. Drinking this solution ensures easy bowel movements in the morning. Another effective and extremely popular remedy is to mix a tablespoon of honey and the juice of a lemon into a glass of lukewarm water and drink this solution every morning on an empty stomach. This functions as a natural cleansing agent. Eating a couple of fresh oranges or drinking a glass of orange juice at breakfast every morning is also useful in cleansing the digestive tract and relieving constipation. Eating an apple every morning also helps prevent constipation. Eating over-ripe bananas is also known to be of help in easing bowel movements. You may eat a ripe banana after a particularly heavy meal. For another remedy, soak a handful of raisins in a cup of water overnight and consume them along with the water the next morning. In addition, boil around 10 figs in a liter of water for 5 minutes and let the solution cool down a bit. Then drink this half an hour before going to bed.
