Bacterial vaginosis
is essentially a bacterial infection of a woman’s vagina resulting in many irritating symptoms. It could also be caused due to the presence of the fungal yeast candida albicans. The most common symptoms are soreness of the vagina, inflammation, burning, unpleasant discharge froms the vagina and pain during sex. There are many conventional medications to cure bacterial vaginosis, however, the unpleasant truth is that they are not so inexpensive. There are number of ways to treat bacterial vaginosis using home remedies that work out far cheaper and are equally affective as prescribed medicines, if not more.

The idea is to make the vaginal region uninhabitable for bacteria. This implies reducing the pH in the vagina, which usually goes up in the event of bacterial vaginosis, decrease irritation and inflammation and eliminate the existing bacteria. Garlic takes top spot when it comes to fighting bacterial vaginosis. It is an excellent natural antifungal and antibacterial and works best against the bacteria causing bacterial vaginosis. Include a lot of garlic in your diet and also keep chewing on a clove or two of garlic throughout the day. One could also take garlic supplements or capsules; however it is best to stick to natural garlic. Boric acid solution is another remedy. Douche your vagina with a solution of boric acid in water. Yogurt is another efficient home remedy. Both oral consumption and direct application on to the vagina are ideal to treat bacterial vaginosis. One could also insert a teaspoon dipped in yogurt into the vagina. This helps improve the hygiene of the vaginal environment. Nutritional supplements too will aid the healing. The antioxidants present in vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamins D and E and also B Complex, are vital in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis. The use of Topical applications of vitamin E in the form of creams or powdered capsules also helps relieve the itching sensation that usually accompanies bacterial vaginosis. Foods that assist the bacteria to thrive should be religiously avoided. These would include cheese, chocolate, sugar etc. Alcohol too is a strict no-no. In addition, one could also soak in a warm bath frequently during the day to help relieve the tissue around the vagina. However, avoid using soap as it will reduce the natural oils of the skin resulting in increased risk of viral infections.
