Natural Remedies for Underarm Odor

The problem of excessive sweating is known as ‘Hyperhidrosis’, this is an embarrassing condition for many. Hyperhidrosis is most often the causative factor that leads to body odor. The level, strength and amount of body odor from a person depends on the amount of secretions in the sweat, the number of bacteria in the underarm, and any dietary input that can find its way into the glands of the skin. Some of the more potent dietary substances that can alter one’s odor aura are garlic, vitamin E, and some types of oils. One can notice an interesting paradigm when it comes to body odor. It only happens in certain areas and not others. This is because of the distribution of the types of sweat glands.

There are a couple of types of sweat glands in the body that are known as Approcrine and Eccrine glands. The latter is situated on the surface of the skin and is related to heat regulation in the body through the process of sweat production. However, the former is not connected to heat regulation and is generally found in the armpits, the genitals and the breasts. This are mainly concerned with creating body odor and is believed to be a part of the human pheromone release system. The problem with these glands is that the exudates from these glands are nutrients for bacteria; it is the bacteria that are the causative factors for body odor. Therefore, it can be ascertained that as with any bacterial infestation on the body, all you have to do is disinfect the area.

Some of the remedies for armpit odor are very easy to whip up and can be easily done at home. The first treatment is by using lemon juice. Take a lemon and divide it into two pieces. Rub the armpits using the two wedges and let them dry by allowing fresh air to blow onto them. Take care that they completely dry off otherwise there will not be any benefit. However, if you have any previous allergic reaction to lime, then the next time you bathe use tea tree oil based body wash. The next method involves the usage of alum. Alum is basically, solidified aluminum chloride. Not only does it reduce underarm odor from your armpits, it actually helps in reducing the amount of sweat that your body produces, being an astringent. There are many deodorants available nowadays which use alum. You are sure to find them in any pharmacy.
