Almost all of us suffer from some form of allergy, mostly related to food, chemical or environmental factors. The inflammatory action of allergens affects blood, muscle tissue and organs, mostly the skin, mucous tissue layers, the lungs and the digestive tract. Some important tips in eliminating the onset of allergies or preventing them are as follows:

1. Herbal concoctions made from eucalyptus and thyme herbs are helpful in relieving congestion caused due to allergies. An herbal poultice prepared from these herbs is also useful in alleviating skin inflammation.

2. Food and medical analysts believe that eating specific foods can aggravate or spark off allergy attacks. It has been studied that those who are allergic to grass pollen have adverse reactions to celery and potato consumption as well. It is important to test oneself for food allergies.

3. Itch mites that are seen in dust are found in homes that have padded and springed mattresses, a lot of furniture, household linen and thick rugs. Medical studies have revealed that synthetic pillows may house numerous allergens and dust mites that can cause allergic reactions. It is important to vacuum floors and wash household linens often to eliminate allergen mites. Air-conditioning is also known to be highly beneficial in eliminating dust mites. It helps in keeping the humidity levels indoors low, and deters the breeding of mites and molds, while filtering the air constantly thus cleansing the air of mites and environmental allergens.

4. Natural antihistamines found in vitamin C are highly beneficial in warding off allergic reactions. A daily dose of Vitamin C, during an allergy season is also believed to bring down histamine levels by up to 45 percent. Medical studies also reveal that a daily dose of an antioxidant known as quercetin is useful in preventing the immune cells from discharging histamine and activating allergic reactions. Quercetin is a form of antioxidant that is a part of a category of water-soluble plant chemicals known as flavonoids. This highly effective antioxidant is found in a natural state particularly in foods, such as apples, wild berries, black grapes, onions, native pomegranates, and in black tea. Regular consumption of these foods can greatly bring down the incidence of allergic attacks.

5. Yoga is extremely useful in treating allergic conditions in the long run. Medical studies show that yoga is instrumental in reducing allergic reactions, enhancing the body’s and the respiratory organs’ endurance, draining the excess mucus from the lungs.
