Home Hangover Remedies

Just as difficult as cleaning the mess up after a nice house party, is the nursing required for a bad hangover after a night of flowing alcohol. The next morning you will feel like you are down with the most horrible sickness ever, courtesy the headache, nausea, shakiness, loss of appetite, and fatigue. Sleeping it off is not always such a good idea, and is often not practically possible. So then what do you do? Well, you can beat the hangover with some very simple remedies. The most tried and tested one is drinking lime juice or orange juice or taking vitamin C tablets — vitamin C helps break down the alcohol content in your body and raises your blood sugar levels. However, if you have diarrhea, avoid orange and lime juice and drink apple juice instead. What you can also do is peel a banana and gobble it up! Too much alcohol means urinating a lot, which also means losing a lot of potassium from your body. So make up for the loss by eating a potassium rich banana.

If you are in a condition to do this, drink up enough water before going to bed, immediately after you have come back from the party. The next day, while you are recovering from the hangover, drink another 8 glasses of water (at least) over the course of the day. Another hangover cure is ginger: so drink ginger ale, and if you can manage to, have some ginger tea brewed too. Combine 4 cups of water and 10 to 12 slices of fresh ginger root. Boil these for 10 minutes, strain and then add the juice of half a lemon, one orange, and 1/2 cup honey. Drink this mixture to alleviate the hangover. Honey is an important ingredient in dealing with a hangover. It contains fructose and glucose, which help limit the metabolic havoc that is caused by alcohol in the body. Mix honey with lemon and one cup of hot water, and drink it several times a day. This decoction can be swallowed easily, and it restores the lost fluids and sugars. To get rid of the headache, simply use a cool compress on the affected parts. Wrap ice cubes in a plastic bag and then a towel, and place it on your head. Alternatively, dip a towel in cold water, wring it and place it on your head. Lastly, eating may seem like a terrible idea but you do need some energy. So after sticking with liquids for the first few hours, eat something light, like rice, soup, or toast.
