High Cholesterol Symptoms
Cholesterol is produced by the liver and a certain amount of it is important for the body. The additional cholesterol generally comes from the food we eat. The way to measure cholesterol is to measure it in milligrams per 100 ml of blood. Generally, cholesterol should vary between 150-200 mg per 100 ml. In blood, cholesterol can occur in combination with fats or lipids, and are thus, known as lipoproteins. There are two kinds of lipoproteins: Low density lipoprotein (LDL) and High density lipoprotein (HDL).
Low density lipoprotein is what creates the deposits of cholesterol in the blood vessels, and this is harmful. Too much of it can increase your chances of getting heart disease and stroke.
High density lipoprotein can actually remove the LDL cholesterol from the blood and reduce your chances of getting heart disease.
Symptoms of High Blood Cholesterol:
• If you have high cholesterol, then chances are that you will feel tired.
• An uneasy feeling accompanied by profuse sweating is another symptom.
• A feeling of heaviness and pain in the area of the chest is another symptom.
• You may also feel breathless if you have high cholesterol.
Cause of High Blood Cholesterol:
• People who drink and smoke excessively are at a risk of getting high cholesterol.
• A diet that is rich in high fat can also increase the level of harmful cholesterol.
• Obesity and heredity factors can increase the levels of cholesterol.
• Stress and excessive workload can lead to high cholesterol too.
• If you suffer from diseases like hypothyroidism, liver or kidney disease, and diabetes mellitus, then it can lead to high blood cholesterol.
Diet for Treating High Blood Cholesterol:
• In a cup of hot water, add a spoonful of lime juice and a spoonful of honey, and drink this solution every morning after you wake up.
• You must eat food that is rich in lecithin. Include food products like unpasturised milk, soy beans, wholegrain cereals, vegetable oils, and egg yolk. If your food has enough lecithin, then cholesterol cannot form on the walls of the veins and arteries.
• You must eat food products that are rich in vitamin E. These include grains, sprouted seeds, soybean oils, safflower, and sunflower seeds.
• Make sure that you have enough of vitamins B6, inositol and choline in your diet. Vitamin B and wheat germ extracted from bran is good for the body.
• Eat fenugreek seeds to control the levels of cholesterol.
