High Blood Pressure Treatment
High Blood Pressure: The blood in your body flows through arteries. When the blood flows at a higher pressure than what is considered normal, it is known as high blood pressure. A person who has normal blood pressure has a count of 120/80 or lower. But those with high blood pressure have a count of 140/90 or higher. High blood pressure can damage the blood vessels and can increase your risk of getting heart attack, heart disease, kidney failure, and stroke.
Lifestyle changes to control and treat high blood pressure:
• Stop smoking cigarettes and using tobacco products.
• Start exercising regularly, and if you are overweight, lose weight.
• Work lots of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet.
• Limit your intake of caffeine, alcohol and sodium.
• Try to relax.
Dos and Don’ts:
• While cooking, make sure that you use monosaturated and polyunsaturated fats instead of hydrogenated fats.
• Include a lot of green, leafy vegetables that are high in fiber, in your diet.
• Reduce the amount of salt that you use in your diet.
• Avoid spicy foods as far as possible.
• Vegetables like drumsticks and bitter gourd are good for people with high blood pressure and should be a part of the daily diet.
• Yellow pumpkin is good for lowering blood pressure.
• Even fruits like apples, guavas, oranges and bananas are good for controlling high blood pressure.
• Instead of eating too much of red meat, substitute it with fish and white meat.
• Try doing yoga and other exercises everyday to control your weight and heart beat.
• Home remedies for treating high blood pressure:
• Make a mixture with 2-3 tablespoons of powdered cumin seeds, ginger juice, and honey. Eat this mixture twice a day.
• Mix one or two spoonfuls of gooseberry juice with honey and drink this every morning when you wake up. It is best that this remedy is consumed before breakfast on an empty stomach.
• Alternately, mix some lemon juice and honey in warm water, and drink the mixture every morning on an empty stomach.
• Even a mixture made with 2-3 spoonfuls of onion juice and honey is known to lower blood pressure.
• Boil a couple of spoonfuls of fenugreek seeds in water, strain it and drink the water twice a day. Do this for a few months for results.
• Pluck a whole bunch of curry leaves and boil at least 40 leaves or so in a small saucepan. Allow the mixture to cool and then strain it and drink it every morning.
• Make a powder by pounding dry water melon seeds. Mix a few spoonfuls of the powder in a glass of water and drink it.
• Drink the juice of freshly-extracted carrot and spinach juice to lower blood pressure. Drink this juice twice a day.
Herbal Remedies:
• Alfalfa is known to contain elements that can soften hard arteries and also reduces the tension in the arteries.
• Garlic has antispasmodic properties and can reduce the pressure in the arteries. It is therefore considered to be very healthy to chew on a few cloves of raw garlic every morning.
• Jaundice berry is known to dilate the arteries and eases blood flow.
• Parsley facilitates blood circulation.
