Herbal Treatment for Anxiety Prevention
Anxiety is a very common problem today. Even though it is widespread, it is rarely taken as seriously as it should be. Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension, fear or worry. For example, a student just about to take an important exam might be extremely anxious as will a medical student about to perform his first surgery. It is very important that the anxiety be controlled as it could have a destabilizing effect on a person’s ability to function. It can cause the student to make unintentional errors during that exam or the surgeon to make a serious mistake during the operation. As a result, severe anxiety can have a very serious impact on a person’s daily life. It is usually accompanied by a number of symptoms most commonly related to the heart, lungs and nervous system. Some may even encounter trouble breathing or experience a feeling of passing out. Anxiety can be caused by a number of factors like mental instability, physical conditions as well as the effects of alcohol or drugs or because of a combination of some of these. Stress is, by and large, the most common reason and cause for anxiety. Stress faced at work, school, personal relationships, financial stress as well as emotional trauma such as the death of a near and dear person, can all lead to anxiety. When the anxiety attacks become periodical and repetitive, it could lead to an anxiety disorder which is multiple attacks of anxiety in a period of time.
Herbs are a new age remedy in the prevention and cure of anxiety attacks and disorders. Valerian root has been used as a sedative for years and has only recently been proven to be an anti – anxiety medication. Valerian also helps considerably in reducing stress and agitation and can be extremely effective when dealing with mild to reasonable levels or anxiety throughout the day. German chamomile and roman chamomile contain substances that help relax some parts of the brain. They also help control insomnia, menstrual cramps, eye infections and skin allergies. Bugleweed is also known to have a calming effect on sufferers of anxiety and promote sleep and relax the muscles and nerves and in turn reduce stress and tension. The big debate would be whether herbs are a better cure than drugs in the fight against anxiety. The truth is that they are often the more trusted choice due to the fact that they are non-toxic, have no harmful chemicals and are non addictive.
