Hematuria (Blood in Urine)- Causes, Symptoms, Treatments and Remedies

Causes of Hematuria

Hematuria is a condition characterized by the presence of red blood cells in the urine. There are varying degrees of the condition where, in microscopic hematuria, the red blood cells can be easily seen by the naked eye. In most cases the condition is a symptom to indicate the presence of a more serious underlying medical condition, although it may even seem to cure itself in a couple of days. It is also normal for a person to experience a bout of hematuria while suffering from no other medical condition. As a result of its rather cryptic occurrence, if the condition persists for a couple of days, you may want to have a few medical tests performed at your local hospital. Urinary tract infections are the primary cause of hematuria and can be present in any organ of the urinary tract such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra or even genitals and prostrate in men. While hematuria is known to affect almost 10% of the population of the United States of America, it is seen to be more common in women as a result of their higher likelihood of developing a urinary tract infection. Some of the other causes of hematuria include kidney stones, cancer of the kidney, prostate or bladder. Consuming certain medications such as antibiotics and analgesics are also known to promote hematuria.

Best Treatment For Hematuria

The most effective treatment for the condition will depend largely on the primary cause. If the condition is caused by a urinary tract infection, you may want to create a mixture of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in an eight ounce glass of water and drink it regularly. This treatment option is known to be very effective in treating urinary tract infections. Cranberry juice has the ability to prevent bacteria from clinging to the walls of the bladder or parts of the urinary tract. You could also add a little apple juice to the concoction to add a little taste. Unfortunately, there aren’t a whole lot of home remedies that help treat hematuria when the condition is not caused by some other underlying medical condition. However, you could try introducing a larger amount of bitter gourd into your daily diet as it is known to be especially beneficial when dealing with this condition. Another option to help speed up the recover process would be to mix some white pumpkin along with some sugarcane juice. Stop smoking or drinking as soon as you notice the presence of blood in your urine as both habits can intensify the condition.
